Petaluma, California-based The Hive has been producing its single-ring Fifteen.G chainset for a while, and coming sometime this year will be the triple-ring version.
What makes the Fifteen.G different is the “Trilobe Polygon”. Sounds like a fossil, but it’s actually the name of the axle shape in The Hive’s crankset. It’s been designed to have as much surface area as possible contacting the crank arm, and is said the be really rather good.
Also making the jump from singlespeed to gears are The Hive’s Chub hubs – massive flanges mean shorter spokes (with stiffer wheels the theoretical advantage), while carbon fibre hub shells cut weight. These are the SS/disc hubs…
…and these are the “coming soon” 9spd freehub models. The front hub comes in 9, 15 or 20mm flavours. The Hive products are imported to the UK by Jungle Products.
