Clothing maker O’Neal is known for downhill and motocross gear, but for 2013 it’s expanding its mountain bike offering into more trail-orientated territory with new gloves, and jerseys and updated versions of its shorts.

The new gear tends to carry an all-mountain designation, because it’d never do for marketeers to admit that people just Go Riding but it looks good for exactly that.

The new AMX glove is designed to be light and highly ventilated, with lots of mesh on the back to keep you cool. The palm is reinforced, there are silicone patches for grip on bars and controls, and a towelling patch for wiping your fevered brow on hot days.

If your iPhone rings while you’re riding, you’ll be able to answer it too, as the AMX gloves have silver threads in the fingertips so they work with capacitive touch screens.

For the rest of your upper body, the new Performance jersey is made from breathable, wicking, quick-drying technical fabric, but styled to look like a t-shirt so you look normal off the bike (aside from the grin-mud between your teeth of course).

If you fancy something a bit more like a cycling jersey, the AMX Zipper top has, as you might expect, a zip at the neck and one on the back pocket so you’ve a safe place for your cash and keys.

The new jerseys match to updated versions of O’Neal’s All Mountain Cargo and All Mountain Mud shorts. With a high back and fitments for O’Neal’s click-in Butt Saver liners, these are designed for a spot-on fit on the bike, but a casual look off it. The Mud version boasts what O’Neal cheerfully calls a ‘waterproof butt’.
