Seven Cycles seize 650b initiative

Seven Cycles have seized upon Nino Schurter’s win at the opening round of the World Cup on 650b wheels by highlighting their own range of bespoke mountain bikes.

All Seven mountain bikes are available in 26″, 650b and 29″ builds

At 27.5″ the 650b wheel size occupies a middle ground between 26″ bikes and 29ers, with the improved handling that comes with smaller wheels and the increased rolling speed and smoother, more stable ride associated with larger hoops.

Schurter’s win in South Africa has diverted the wheel size debate away from 29″ v 29er which was dominating the mountain bike world and Seven reckon 650b can no longer viewed as a novelty wheel.

They told us: “Several Seven employees are riding 650b for their everyday trail bike and have taken time to understand this wheel size’s unique characteristics in both geared and, more recently, single-speed set ups. These bikes give a very pure trail experience. There is a lot of stripped down, old-school fun to be had on bikes like these.”

Seven Cycles founder Rob Vandermark said: “I started out racing mountain bikes, so having fun on the trail is a core value here at Seven and we are always exploring the possibilities of technologies new and old. 650b is actually an old standard, and one we have had in our design palette for a long time. It is very cool to see it emerging in the market and bringing riders a new trail experience.”
