Sorry for any trouble we may have caused, but it looks like the information we were given that RUPP’s (Roads Used as Public Paths) and BOATS (Byways Open to All Traffic) were not legally closed under foot and mouth legislation is misleading.
Councils do have the power to close them, and in many areas have done exactly that. The level of closure depends on the exact wording of the closure order issued by the council but you’ll need to check with them before you end up in trouble.
