We’ve been hearing of a few problems with air loss from 2002 versions of the normally dependable Fox Float air shocks since they went on sale last year. The explanation, it turns out, is that some were fitted with air sleeve seals of the wrong rubber compound. If you think your new bike is affected then don’t worry as Fox are offering a repair kit that includes a replacement for the one dodgy seal and instructions on how to fit it.
Chris Porter at Mojo (the Fox importers and service agents) told us that the official kits will be arriving shortly, but in the meantime they can do the repairs from their spares stock. Unfortunately there’s no way of telling if your shock is affected except by checking if it leaks. Chris reminded us; “it is a warranty thing so proof of purchase (for shock, bike
or frame) is required” adding “two-year-old shocks that have
never been greased and spent their whole lives downstream from the ‘Jet-wash’
won’t be getting free seals!!”
