According to a story on Ananova, family planning officials are offering men a bicycle worth £20 if they undergo a vasectomy. Efforts to control the country’s population growth with a free vasectomy program have had a poor response, so officials in Bankura 100 miles north west of Calcutta hit upon the free bicycle idea. Already 24 have received bikes.

An official commented, “We hope at least 250 will respond to our ‘undergo vasectomy and pedal away on a new bicycle scheme’ in 10 of our winter family sessions this time.”

We can’t help thinking that the last thing you’d want to do after a vasectomy is pedal away on a bicycle, but the scheme appears to be working. You can read the full story here.
