Muddy Fox are nothing if not resilient. The pioneering brand has disappeared and resurfaced so many times that we’ve lost count. But their profile has been fairly high of late, what with sponsoring top DH racers the Atherton family (yes, more or less all of them) and actually having some pretty good bikes.
Their latest rebranding exercise has seen them drop the whitespace, so it’s Muddyfox from now on. And they’ve got a new range of bikes, with prices starting from £219. It’s a pretty sizable range, too, covering hardtails of XC and jumpy persuasions, various full-sussers and even town and road bikes.
Most eye-catching are the Team Descent and Team Descent 2 models. As you’d imagine, they’re both big-travel downhill race bikes with linkage back ends although the frames are somewhat different. The top of the range TD2 is £2,999 with Boxxer Team forks, Fifth Element rear shock, Hope M4 brakes and SRAM X.0 transmission. It’s a fully race-ready package, with all of the toys (bolt-through rear axle, adjustable everything) that the discerning DHer would expect. The TD is a grand cheaper at £1,999 with a Marzocchi Super T, Hayes HFX-9 brakes and XT stuff – all pretty respectable.
Other things in the range that caught our eye are some vaguely NRS-alike XC full sussers and some rather neat-looking hardtails. You can take a look at them all at www.muddyfox.com or call 01268 247000 for more details and stockist information.
