Marco Pantani, the last man to win the Tour de France before Lance Armstrong’s domination of the event, has been found dead in a hotel room in Rimini. His body was discovered by hotel staff on Saturday afternoon. The cause of death is not known but Italian police say that there is no evidence of violence.
34-year-old Pantani had received treatment for depression in a psychiatric clinic last year after failing to be selected to ride in the centenary Tour de France.
