Learn from the champ

If you want to brush up on your cross-country riding, it’s hard to think of a better man from whom to pick up some tips than National XC Champion Oli Beckingsale (MBUK/Scott). Oli’s been running his Pro Technique courses at Aston Hill for a few years now. The emphasis is on riding technique (clue’s in the name), so you don’t have to be race fit – the pace is steady. The course involves riding sections of trail at Aston Hill, looking at the techniques necessary to tackle technical sections and different trail conditions.

The next course is on 13 October 2002. They last three hours and there’ll be two sessions during the day. Costs are £22 if you’re a member of Aston Hill Mountain Bikers or £25 if you’re not.

Booking information is available from the Aston Hill website www.astonhill.com, by email from protechnique@firecrestmtb.com or call 01296 489729.

Ride like a pro!

Though he’s yet to prove himself in an Olympic race situation,
Oli Beckingsale has all the credentials you would want from a trail-teacher. And
he can tutor you in his ways, allowing you to follow in his 5-ringed wheel tracks
and perhaps learn to ride a little better.

Building on Aston Hill’s Master Class Programme, Pro Technique Courses offer you
the opportunity to not only meet Pro Riders, but to learn the techniques they use
to win races on the domestic and international scene.

Fresh from the Olympics, Oli Beckingsale will be back for his 3rd year on Aston Hill
on Sunday 15th October, offering you the opportunity to learn the riding techniques
that have taken him to domestic and international success.

The sessions look at all the skills essential to mountain biking and include an insight
into bike set up and pre-ride preparation. All aspects of mountain bike riding and
racing are covered including, descending, cornering and climbing plus loads more.
The sessions are aimed at complete beginner through to the budding professional,
so fitness is not essential, as you will be watching and learning from the best as
opposed to being left in their dust.

There are 10 places per session so booking is essential and places will be allocated
on a first come first served basis. A place will cost £20.00 for members of
Aston Hill Mountain Bikers and #24.00 for non-members

Bikes and equipment are available for hire but must be booked in advance.
