Destination: Coed Trallwm, Llanwrtyd Wells, Wales

Near to the scene of my silver medal triumph in the 2008 Bog Snorkeling Triathlon World Championships (Run-Bog-Bike), you wouldn’t make a trip especially to ride the small but perfectly formed trails at the privately owned Coed Trallwm but, with plenty of other riding and trails in the area, you can easily cobble a great full day’s riding together.

Bikemagic Trail Guide (Coed Trallwm)How to get there

From Llandovery, take the A40 west, and then, just on leaving the town, turn right onto the A483, heading north towards Builth Wells. Stay on the A483 for 15 miles to Beulah (amuse yourself with 1980’s film reference) and then turn left onto a minor road, signed towards Abergwesyn. The centre is another four miles along this road.

Sat Nav: LD5 4TS

Facilities

Small cabin-style visitors centre with cafe, wood burning stove and cracking homemade cakes. What more do you want?

Trails

Three trails: blue, red and black, 4km, 5km and 5km. All are good fun and, although probably over-graded, there are some steep downhill pitches on the red and black with sharp turns at the bottom that can catch you out, especially if it’s wet and muddy. The Five Springs river crossing on the red almost guarantees soggy feet.

Nearest bike shop

The visitor centre sells basic spares. Cycle-Tec in Builth Wells is 12 miles away www.cycle-tec.co.uk

Other info

To park and ride the trails is £2. If the cafe isn’t open to pay (not open during winter so check website), there’s an honesty box.
