Who?

Koobi are a relatively young American company dedicated solely to saddles and solving soreness thereof.

Saddle with a split personality.

What?

Koobi’s saddles established a reputation through their “Splitfit” system, which essentially slices the nose of the saddle into two halves, with a slot running from nose to centre. The idea is to remove pressure on the key arteries that pump blood to your boner, and though it looks odd, it seems to make more sense than the slots that come from the back of the saddle.

The PRS takes this Splitfit idea and then adds a “tuneable suspension system” in the shape of elastomers between the rear rails and the saddle. These come in three different densities to tweak the softness to your preferred level. Koobi have also kept the width of their sports saddles nice and narrow rather than the broadness that creeps into a lot of “enhanced comfort” perches.

The bumpers are somewhere in the dark patch.

Does it work?

Now the basic problem with testing this saddle is none of the people we know actually suffer from the numbness this saddle is meant to prevent. The best we could do was post Red Bull rub and it seemed to soothe that very well. The bumpers out the back seem to bounce along happily (think similar ‘comfort’ to running a carbon seatpost) and the slim shape and hooked nose kept it out of the way of baggy shorts and looking good.

The downside is the extra bolts and complexity of the PRS system which keeps weight (320g) and price high for a manganese railed saddle. The way that the camel toe saddle tip can really give your plums a sharp bite if you slide across it sideways in technical situations or careless remounts caught us out a few times too.
