Eclipse inner tubes

Eclipse tubes: they don’t come cheap, but they also reportedly don’t puncture all too easily… There’s nothing of them – lighter even than a tubeless set-up.

The world’s lightest inner tubes may seem expensive (because they are!), but if you add up the cost of going tubeless, they seem less ridiculous – and apparently this system is lighter than even tubeless. Add to that the fact that the guys from Fox suspension (who introduced us to them) say they’re incredibly resilient to punctures, and it’s a good deal! RockShox Reverb Stealth

Rockshox Reverb Stealth: for trail riding or really any sort of mountain biking, a dropper post is almost invaluable. Such a simple invention but it makes riding technical descents so much easier.

“You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.” It’s true, and a Reverb is the perfect example – it crept up on us with a “why didn’t I think of that?!” kind of simplicity, and now any trail/all-mountain bike without one feels obsolete. Simon Harris, the lucky winner of a Trek Fuel EX 7, with Lola the Weimaraner.

Huge congratulations to Simon Harris from Suffolk who is the very happy winner of the £2000 Trek Fuel EX 7 in our recent competition in conjunction with the Cycle Show.

“Wow I am amazed. Thanks very much!” was Simon’s reaction to our email letting him know he’s won. Always nice to make someone’s day.

A 39-year-old IT guy, Simon describes himself as a “keen amateur who mainly bikes for fun and exercise at weekends.” He’s often accompanied by his 8 year old daughter, 10 year old son and his companion in this photo, Lola, who’s a 3 year old Weimaraner.

“I have always had a bike (mainly mountain bikes) and cycled since being a kid, often cycling with a dog running in front,” he says. “Last few years both my children are now riding, which means I am able to ride a lot more, go further and faster. I have even been known to race my wife on her Horse on my bike.”

Simon rides in Thetford forest and Brandon Country Park in Suffolk, where the new bike should help him keep up with Lola and the kids.

Commiserations to everyone who didn’t win, but out of thousands of entries, not everyone can be lucky. We asked Trek and the Cycle Show if we could give all of you a bike and they just gave us a look.

About the trek Fuel EX 7

Simon Harris has won one of these. Nice isn’t it?

The bike Simon’s won is the latest in Trek’s hugely successful Fuel EX line of trail bikes. For 2013 Fuel EX machines have 130mm of travel for a bit more downhill top end, but retain the light, nimble handling the Fuel EX is known for.

The Fuel EX gets its great suspension performance from a combination of Trek’s Active Braking Pivot floating back end and Fox shock and fork with Trek’s Dual Rate Control Valve suspension technology. Its handling comes from decades of tuning and development.

The Fuel EX 7 features Fox suspension at both ends of its Trek Alpha Platinum aluminium frame, with a 32 Float CTD fork and Float DRCV CTD shock. Combined with a tapered steerer, magnesium EVO linkage, 15mm through-axle and floating rear triangle and you have a precise-handling chassis that soaks up anything you throw it at.
